Back Stairwell
The concept for this sculpture is based on the stairs from my primary school, where you could see the wear pattern of kids going up and down the stairs for over a hundred years. When I built the stairs, I knew that they would slowly fall apart as I built them. Part of the work is that it must be altered continuously so that it doesn’t fall apart. Through this, I had to keep producing new methods of solving the problems that arose. This is visible in the tape and string that hold the piece together. In contrast, the stones that hang from the steps are intentionally contributing further to the slow destruction of the work.
